March 31 – April 2, 2017
Throughout its 15-year history, the Can-Am Equine Expo has demonstrated a vigorous tendency to reinvent itself. This year’s show, taking place at the Markham Fairgrounds on March 31 to April 2, is no exception. Visitors familiar with the latest trends and products in the horse industry will find lots of carryovers from previous years – but also lots of new features, attractions, and clinicians, to make a return trip a welcome start to the spring season. Newcomers will find the Can-Am Equine Expo nothing less than a breathtaking celebration of the horse in all its glory.
Headlining the Can-Am show’s Evening Extravaganza, the event’s pivotal entertainment feature is the celebrated horseman, Bobby Kerr. This special variety spectacular also features the Ontario Xtreme Cowboys, the Canadian Cowgirls, and the Battle of the Breeds. Tickets for both performances, scheduled for Friday and Saturday are available at ticketweb.ca. Besides the Evening Extravaganza, there will be plenty of chances to see horses throughout the weekend. A great variety of breeds will be on display at all times, and a Parade of Breeds will be held several times daily.
Clinicians include a wide array of exemplary talent representing virtually all aspects of the equine industry. These include among others Belinda Trussell, Kateri Cowley, Danny Foster, Russell Guire, Lindsey Partridge, Lauren Bode, Elaine Ward, Lorie Duff, and much more! EquiMania!, Equine Guelph’s hands-on educational exhibit for young horse enthusiasts, will be back with a major exhibit. Artists’ Walk features creative horse-themed works by some of the best contemporary artists and photographers. Can-Am’s shopping deals invite glorious self-indulgence: the show provides ample opportunity to stock up on tack, gear, feed, apparel, and souvenirs. Fans of CBC’s famed Heartland series will not be disappointed to hear that Alisha Newton (“Georgie”) will be hosting an hour-long Q & A session on Sunday afternoon in addition to co-hosting the Evening Extravaganza on Saturday night.
