Canadian Paralympian Lauren Barwick, a resident of Reddick, Florida, posted a string of spectacular high scores at the Tryon Fall Dressage 3 Concours Para Equestrian de Dressage International (CPEDI) 3*, held October 22-25, 2020, in Mill Spring, North Carolina (NC).

Radiographs have been found to be insufficient evidence for diagnosing Cervical Facet disease according to a research study by Dr. Judith Koenig and a team of researchers at the Ontario Veterinary College. In a video interview, Koenig explains some of the complexities of equine osteoarthritis and cervical facet disease.

Marking 100th Anniversary of Historic Race in Windsor, Ontario - Canadian Hose Racing Hall of Fame - In a special online event on October 12, 2020, exactly 100 years to the day after Man o’ War and Sir Barton competed in a match race at Windsor’s Kenilworth Park, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame named Man o’ War its 2020 Legend Honouree. The announcement was the culmination of a week-long social media campaign celebrating the original “Big Red’s” monumental win, which placed an emphatic exclamation mark on his remarkable career.

According to information from the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC), three horses in Lambton County, Ontario, were confirmed as having contracted eastern equine encephalitis (EEE).

The EDCC, by way of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, reported that the three horses - two Quarter Horse geldings, 20 and 11 years old; and a yearling filly - began to display the signs of the disease on September 22, 2020, and were confirmed as positive for EEE on October 9. All three horses succumbed to the illness.

Researchers at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine have identified a genetic cause for the fatal condition equine familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (EFIH) in Thoroughbreds, marking the first genetic variant for hypoparathyroidism identified in any domestic animal species. Additionally, this is the first widely available genetic test for Thoroughbreds.
