A Fully Adjustable Western Saddle
By DK Saddlery
A Western saddle has been developed that can be adjusted to properly fit any horse’s back, for any discipline.
Danny Kroetch of DK Saddlery in Calgary, Alberta has designed a Western saddle that can be fitted to each horse’s unique shape, and adjusted to the horse’s shape as it changes with feed, work, and age.
Kroetch has been a Master Saddle Fitter for over 18 years and he fits approximately 2,000 saddles each year. His saddles are the first fully adjustable Western saddles in the industry. In just one minute, a rider can adjust the bars up to six inches to fit the horse’s withers and shoulders correctly. This gives the saddle more stability on the horse’s back, encouraging more freedom of motion in the shoulders. That comfort range will enhance the horse’s performance.
The saddles also have an adjustable tree allowing the rider to make adjustments for a perfect fit or change the fit as the rider uses the same saddle on different horses.
In addition, the saddles have a fully adjustable air system built right into the base of the saddle. The advantage of the air system is that it allows the horse’s back to move freely as the air subtly shifts with the motion of the back muscles.
“I have barrel racers who have increased their running time by up to half a second and ropers who have been able to rope without a breast collar or back cinch and the saddle has never moved,” said Kroetch. “I have put my saddles on horses that wouldn’t spin to the right, wouldn’t back up, or had trouble picking up a lead. Now they do. My goal is to take the pain away from horses.”
