On November 22, 2016, the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed format changes for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020, which will now go to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board for final approval in 2017.

Rio 2016 Olympic Jumping champion Nick Skelton (GBR) added another major accolade to his collection on November 22, 2016, when he was declared the winner of the top prize at the prestigious 2016 FEI Awards gala dinner in Tokyo (JPN), in the presence of guest of honour, FEI Honorary President, HRH Princess Haya.

The FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2018 will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in North Carolina (USA) from September 10 to 23, 2018. On November 3, 2016, the FEI Bureau unanimously agreed that the Games should be awarded to Tryon, meaning that the FEI’s flagship event remains in North America, following the withdrawal of Bromont (CAN) earlier this year.

The FEI is proud to announce that all human and equine samples taken during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 have returned negative, making for back-to-back all-round clean Games from both London 2012 and Rio 2016.

In a day of weather that changed as often as the ride leaders, Spain’s Jaume Punti Dachs captured individual gold and led his compatriots Alex Luque Moral and Angel Soy Coll to the team title at the Longines FEI World Endurance Championships 2016 in Samorin, Slovakia. The championships were held from September 15 to 18.

Canada’s Lauren Barwick closed out the Para-dressage competition with a sixth place finish in the Grade II Freestyle on September 16 at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, BRA.

Three London 2012 freestyle titles were successfully defended in the Para-dressage competition of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on Friday, September 16, 2016. Belgium’s Michèle George retained hers in the grade IV competition on what was her last championship ride on FBW Rainman, the horse that has taken her to two FEI World Equestrian Games™ titles and three Paralympic gold medals. George beat individual Championship test winner Sophie Wells (GBR) into second place with a score of 76.300% to Well’s 76.350%. The Netherlands’ Frank Hosmar took the bronze.
