He’s 58 years old, competing at his seventh Olympic Games, and he was riding a horse that has been struggling with injury for over two years. But Nick Skelton riding Big Star made Olympic history when becoming the first-ever British rider to win individual Jumping gold at Deodoro Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro on August 19, 2016.

Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON had the crowd on the edge of their seats as he sped to a bronze medal finish in a six-horse jump-off on August 19, 2016 at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, BRA. Nick Skelton of Great Britain won gold after riding Big Star to a clear jump-off in the fastest time of 42.82 seconds. Peder Fredricson of Sweden and All In were close behind with a clear performance in 43.35 seconds.

“A legend in his own lifetime, a complete horseman and a man who is deeply involved in the development of the sport.” That was the description of Olympian Ludger Beerbaum given by FEI Jumping Director, John Roche, on August 18, 2016, after the announcement of the German rider’s retirement from his national team.
